My name is Brian Lewis and I am currently a Junior. The degree I am attempting to attain is a degree in Biology and a minor in Philosophy. I chose Biology as my main focus of interest because I have always been interested in science and how life works. I chose Philosophy as a minor because I enjoy breaking down problems and arguments while still having the chance to study an individual's theory. Most of my online writing comes from sending e-mails to teachers. I also send e-mails to people I need to get in contact with. A good example of this would be e-mailing a person for an interview. I do sometimes post on Facebook with a status update or I will post on another person's status. Every once in a while a friend will post a note that I may or may not agree with and I will post my opinion about that note. I will also make comments on my friend's pictures that they post, especially if they relate to me.

Hey, my name is Taylor Friesenhahn. I am a senior-level student graduating this May. I will be receiving a B.S. degree in Geology, with a concentration in Geophysics , and a B.A. degree in Spanish. I have always loved the sciences like physics and chemistry so I knew that I would ultimately end up studying one of the many science fields. My love for the outdoors naturally drew me to go into the study of geology. Curiosity sparked my interest, wanting to know why such and such is the way it is and what the processes are that brought them to how they are today. Geology was a way to combine all of my interests because it encompasses so many of the science fields that I like the most as well as the outdoors. I chose to study Spanish as well because I naturally found other languages interesting and wanted to learn one. I’ve also traveled all over Central and South America so that kind of helped me make the decision to study Spanish.

My online writing is limited to a Facebook and emails. Although I read many online articles, I don’t do much blogging or online writing myself. I send emails primarily to professors and bosses. My Facebook is not really tailored to express my opinions or beliefs but for social networking purposes.

Hello! My name is Ariel Anglin and I am currently a sophomore. I am working towards an Interior Design Major and a Real Estate Finance Minor. I chose Interior Design as my career path while I was in high school because of a wonderful introductory Interiors class that I was enrolled in my junior year. After research the career options I decided it was perfect for me. There isn’t much work in an “office,” you are able to move around a lot, and you get to meet many people. There are also many different areas you can go into; some are sales, textile design, commercial/residential design, and even non profits. I decided on a Real Estate Finance Minor because of the opportunity to get enough seat hours to take the real estate licensing exam in Arkansas. I hope to work in sales for commercial buildings and then design the interiors.
Most of the writing that I do online, like many others of my generation, is on facebook. I occasionally update my status, and write on friend’s walls. I also write emails, mostly to professors but occasionally to interior designers or sales reps around this area so that I can learn more about the field and stay in contact with people I have met while in school. I find myself reading many online articles that range from health and fitness to politics but I rarely will comment on them, I try to discusses them in person with friends.

Hello everyone! My name is Melissa Gramlich. I am a junior studying Elementary Education. I have always had a passion for teaching and children, and it is evident every time I step into a classroom. My mother was a teacher, so I guess you could say ‘it runs in the family’! I want to inspire children the way some of my teachers have inspired me, and I want to leave a lasting impact on their life. I think adults can have a great impact on children, and I hope to encourage all the children I meet in my future career to be the best they can be and to never stop learning.
My online writing is on my email, and Facebook: sending messages, writing on walls, commenting on pictures/ statuses. Although I have a Twitter account, I’m not sure how to use it… but I like reading other people’s ‘Tweets’! I don’t read many blogs or comment on any blogs, but I do follow a couple forums. I also think that talking in person or even over the phone is a much better way of communicating, and I prefer to do that.

Hey, my name is Kayla King. I am a junior, majoring in Food, Human Nutrition and Hospitality with a concentration in Dietetics. After changing my major four times, I finally found the perfect major for me. I have always been an athlete and concerned with what I eat, so a future in nutrition and dietetics is perfect for me. I hope to work my way to advising athletes on what to eat and their nutrition needs. Athletics was my past and I want it to be my future too.
My writing online is limited. I have a facebook account but I use it more for staying updated in my friend’s lives, by reading statuses, than for communicating. I use facebook to communicate with only a few people, my two group members for one of my classes and anyone that randomly messages me from time to time. I only use email to communicate with teachers and for any professional situations. My writing might be limited but when I have to use it, I have no problem achieving what I need.

My name is Laura Haydon and I am a junior here at the University of Arkansas. My major is Elementary Education and I am loving every minute of it. I’ve wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. I love being around kids, probably because I am still a kid myself. My mom has been teaching my whole life and I was always in her classroom getting to help out, so I guess that is where it started. I don’t normally post on blogs or get involved in any discussions online. I do have a facebook, like most everyone these days. I enjoy getting on facebook because I used to live in South Korea because my father was in the military so this gives me a chance to keep up with all of my friends who are now all around the world. I just started instant messaging with my eight year old niece, trying to get her familiar with the computer and so I get to talk to her since she lives so far away. Other than that, I don’t really do much on the internet other than shop and do school work.

My name is Kendra Meadors. I am currently a sophomore majoring in Agriculture Education with a minor in Agribusiness. I chose this particular field of study because I grew up on a beef cattle farm, and I have always been interested in the many different aspects of agriculture. Also, I think agriculture is a very important part of society that is overlooked most of the time because most people do not realize its importance and the effect it has on everyone, so I chose Agriculture Education so that I can teach other about it.
Most of the writing that I do online is emails to professors and others that I need to be in contact with. I do not do any blogging online, but I do have a Facebook account that I check often. I use my Facebook mostly for networking and to keep in touch with friends, but it also reflects my opinions and beliefs.

Hi, my name is Blair Bailey and I am a sophomore here at the University of Arkansas. Currently, my major is communication disorders; however I am thinking of changing it to dental hygiene or nursing or something along those lines, but it could always change again. Throughout my life, I have always wanted to work with children because they are so carefree and enjoyable to be around for me, so hopefully I will end up working with children as part of my career one day. My online writing consists of sending emails and Facebook-ing. Usually, I only receive emails but occasionally I reply back to my teachers or to my boss regarding my work schedule. While on Facebook, my writing consists of writing on my friends walls as a way to keep in touch with them and see what they are up to. I do read other web sites and browse the web, but I do not do any other blogging or writing on the web.

Hey everyone, I’m Jim Burnett, a sophomore biology major. Overall, the sciences have fascinated me as a means of understanding my surroundings. However, I became interested specifically in biology as a way to pursue a career in medicine. I chose this career as it offers a variety of ways to apply scientific knowledge to help others while working with people. Also, it is a constantly changing field in which many interesting discoveries are being made.
With regards to my online writing, I usually write emails to friends and professors, as well as facebook posts. Generally, I use email to communicate important information with a fairly serious persona while employing facebook for day-to-day communications. I use several different facets of facebook regularly, such as wall posts, status comments, picture comments, and the chat feature. On the other hand, while online posts remain an important segment of my total writing output, I write offline for classes much more often.

Hello! My name is Amy Yealy, and I am a senior apparel merchandising major from Dallas, Texas. My concentration within the merchandising field is visual merchandising. I am a very creative person and really enjoy doing projects, which is why I chose visual merchandising. I want a profession that will never be the same and always challenge me creatively. I would say that I write a fair amount online. I have both Facebook and Twitter accounts along with my email account, and with all of these sites available on my cell phone, I check them numerous times a day. I definitely write more on email and use Facebook and Twitter more to keep up with my friends and family. I would say that I keep to myself mainly in regards to my ideas, opinions and beliefs. I believe there is a time and place to share those things and the internet is not one way I feel is appropriate.

Hey, my name is Jonathan Hayes. I am a sophomore majoring in Electrical Engineering. The choice to study Electrical Engineering came very easy to me. I always knew I wanted to do something in the fields of math and science, but I also wanted to do something that is very relevant and important to life and society. My major covers all of these aspects. Everything around us is composed of electrical components and therefore was developed to some extent by an electrical engineer. I was also drawn to it because there are so many opportunities that I would have with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
I hardly do any writing online. I do occasionally write wall posts or update my status on Facebook. I actually do post comments on my friends’ wall posts and statuses, but that is the only type of online writing in which I express my opinion. I do read many articles and forums online, but I do not post my opinion on any of them. So, maybe after this project I will start posting more comments and express my opinion more online.

My name is Tyler Allgood. I am a sophomore here at the University of Arkansas, and I am majoring in Electrical Engineering. I chose this major due to my interest in computers and electronics. This is mainly from working on computers and playing videogames. Most of my online writing experience comes from being on Facebook and from comment on things such as videos on Youtube. Although, when I do comment on videos it is generally to clarify something as a response to another comment. I don’t express my opinion most of the time. I also write a lot of e-mails to friends, family, and teachers. I generally don’t like writing essays and other papers for classes; however, I do enjoy writing creative stories. I tend not to keep these writings since they are a spur of the moment type hobby for me. It is something to entertain myself when there isn’t any thing else to do.

Hey! My name is Kaylin Minihan. I am currently a Junior and studying to be a nurse. I have wanted to be a nurse since I was eight years old because I thoroughly enjoy helping others. Also, the anatomy of the human body is very interesting to me. So, this is how I came up with wanting a nursing degree!

I don't do much online writing. I write a few emails to my teachers every once in awhile and I also have a facebook account. On facebook I occasionally update my status and comment on other friend's pictures. I have never blogged before, but it will be interesting to learn how!

What up I’m Jonathan Martin. This is my fourth year in Mechanical Engineering, but I’ll be around for another year. That’s right a super senior. I chose this field because I wanted to design machines to make life easier. I like to go fast too, and mechanical engineers build things that go fast (jets, race vehicles, spacecraft…). I spend a lot of time on YouTube where I occasionally comment on a video. I like facebook because I can message my friends that are overseas in the military. I deactivated my facebook account because I’m afraid employers will check it out. I’ll bring it back up in a month or two. I don’t like to express my opinions and beliefs online. Everyone has their own opinions and beliefs and they are probably different than mine. Most of the emails I write are to teachers, which are usually just for the attachment.

Hello My name is Tori Manning and I am a junior. I am planning on getting my degree in Nursing at UAMS in Little Rock. I chose this degree because I enjoy working with people and it is an exciting field to enter in. Especially when Nursing is in high demand for new comers. Most of my online writing comes from emails to teacher, family, friends, etc. I also enjoy to write on Facebook. Facebook is very addictive and is a good way to procrastinate. I reply back to notes and messages friends send me on Facebook. I also enjoy looking at my friends pictures and posting comments on the pictures.

My name is Chelsea Byrne and I am a sophomore psychology major. I chose this major because I have always been curious about the mind and how it makes decisions. Since I was young I always tried to run social type experiments on my family without even realizing it. I focus on motivations and especially the criminology side, what motivates criminals to do bad things. If I am online I am usually on Facebook or stumble. I occasionally read blogs on a variety of random topics, but I rarely post my own, until now of course… I also send a lot of emails to friends, parents, relatives, teachers, and business associates. I newer way for me to spread my opinions via internet is Chat Roulette. It is a random search of people across the world that is also on the website. If you have a webcam it is a free live chat with others, similar to old school chat rooms.

Hello everyone, my name is Charles Pemberton. I am currently a junior majoring in Architecture. I am in my third year which leaves me two more years before graduation. I have always loved taking things apart and building things as a child so it is no surprise to me that I am where I am right now. It’s always been a dream of mine to become an architect ever since I was able to do technical drawings at secondary school level. My major has many different avenues to venture into after graduating and also gives me the freedom to express myself as a designer and hopefully improve the life of others.
My online writing is usually done through emails to family and professors, although I may do a little bit of commenting on youtube or facebook to express my opinion. I’m a big hater of twitter because I think it’s a waste of valuable time but I use facebook regularly so there you go. This is my first blog ever.

Hey, my name is Jacob Clemmons and I am a freshman. My major at the moment is undeclared, although I am pretty sure I would like to major in business. I would chose business because it seems to be both practical and applicable in today’s job market. Also, the idea of creating my own business has always been a dream and seems like a legitimate and effective way to use my entrepreneurial skills. I don’t do much writing on the internet, preferring to spend time outside or off the computer. But currently, to express my ideas and communicate over the internet: I actively participate and chat on facebook, write e-mails to friends and family, and Instant message other close friends. In general, I believe the internet is a powerful communication tool that will only become more entrenched in our everyday life as time goes on and that is pretty much how I use it.

My name is Cody Mathews and I am currently a Junior. I am currently in the Walton College of Business pursuing a Business Management degree. I chose the business side of school because of my family having a business. I plan on entering the family business once graduating and going to culinary school. Another big interest of mine is cooking. I plan on going to the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY once graduating from the UofA. Most of my online writing comes from facebook along with emailing teachers and my family. I am also involved in message boards centered towards the Razorback sports along with a few professional teams that interest me.

Hey, my name is Mallory McSpadden. I am a sophomore right now, and I am majoring in Communication Disorders. I chose this field of study because my brother has Autism, and he went through Speech therapy throughout his entire childhood. The Speech Pathologist worked so hard with my brother and helped him tremendously. This made me realize that I wanted to be a part of this field of study. In order to become a Speech Pathologist, I must also go to graduate school. I hope someday that I can work with kids and not only help improve their speech, but also improve their overall quality of life.

The only online writing I really do is Facebook and e-mails to my teachers and family. I love both of these because I can stay in touch with people that I do not normally see all the time. Occasionally, I will e-mail my bosses either to cancel a shift or discuss a problem. I also like to read articles online. Sometimes it is much easier to read an article on a website, then having to go out and purchase it. I like being a able to stay in touch with the real world online.

Hey there! My name is Bethany Greiving, and I am currently a sophomore Poultry Science major, with a focus in Veterinary Medicine. I have chosen this field because ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of growing up to be a Veterinarian. I love animals, and I always have. When I was younger and one of my animals would get sick I would get so scared that they were going to die. But our vet was able to heal them most of the time. So that’s what I want to do, I want to save the animals that are so special to children and their families. Even when I started college I still had that dream, so I am stickin with it. As for the type of writing that I do online, it’s mainly Facebook. I’ll update my status, write on my friend’s walls, and send messages. I also use e-mail, but it is mainly to communicate with my teachers.

Hello! My name is Bart Kline I am a senior at the Fay Jones School of Architecture. I will be graduating this spring and taking a job in Nashville Tennessee. I went into architecture because I love to design. More importantly I like to design space. I think that designing the environment in which we all reside is an important task that has a lot of potential in influencing people’s life.
I don’t have a lot of experience writing on the internet other than face book and you tube. I enjoy commenting on my friends pictures and poking fun at different videos on you tube. In my field of study we do a lot of email responses between owners and contractors. The responses are typically short and to the point. Here is an example of a typical email from the owner to the architect” Bart, one of the contractors that would like to bid is: Harold Jones Co. Inc, 479-993-2330. The other is A Gary Reed but I will have to get his phone # and send it to you. Thanks”

Hello everyone, my name is John Barry Helton, and I write under the alias JB. I don’t think anyone will ever figure it out. I am a mathematics major and am projected to graduate spring 2011. I have always had an unexplainable enjoyment for working with numbers, and taking long walks on the beach. Candle lit dinners are also nice, especially under a moonlight, starry sky. I would like to work as an educator after graduation, or as a statistician for a major corporation. I typically reserve my online writings to email and facebook. I have neither the time, nor the desire to read and post on websites, blogs, or twitter. I find most comments by users to be ignorant, narrow-minded, and/or biased. Honestly, I do not feel I have any original thoughts or ideas I could contribute to a sophisticated or educated blog. Even more so, I do not feel passionate enough about any topic to express my opinion to others. I do feel some regret having never explored the world wide web of educated debate, primarily because of my desire to avoid the uneducated, or appear uneducated myself. I hope to find my inner blogger through this process and begin to educate my self on the important issues of today, and the opinions of others to these issues.

My name is Lauren Johnston Johnston; I am currently a junior Accounting student with a minor in Economics. With a passion for Economics, I can easily see doing a double major. The reason I chose to major in accounting is because it seems to be a good fit for me. Plus, I have been around business my whole life, and am very conservative. As a child, my favorite toy was the calculator. The reason for also wanting to major in Economics is because it is the basis of business. One must know the trends and market to be successful.
For internet communication, I do have a facebook page. I am not necessarily a fan, but do post pictures and write on friends walls. I prefer someone to call me or text if they want to talk. As far as networking goes, again I rather it be in person at happy hour or a gathering. Currently I don’t really use internet to express my opinion or beliefs, I use it to read the paper, check the market, and do school stuff.

Hey Everyone,
My name is Holly Dilliplane. I’m a fifth year Broadcast Journalism major with a History minor. I was editor of my high school newspaper and loved reporting. Although I wanted to do broadcast I was scared when I walked in a studio and thought it was too technical for me. A few years later I decided to change majors and give broadcast a shot. Currently, I’m trying to decide between TV or Radio.

I anchor and produce for UATV on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. I work for ESPN 92.1 The Ticket, where I do sports research, blogging, sports blitz news packages, attend all Razorback sporting events, and serve as Sports Press Conference Reporter. It’s a fun job, but requires a good deal of writing. I create bullet-point sentences to broadcast my sports blitz, and they have to be simple and clear.
As for blogging no one is perfect, but using creditable resources without going off subject is important. Although with my job it’s usually whatever sports subject I want to talk about, or whatever TJ is saying on air.

Hello, everybody! I am Rachel Gibbons. I am a junior and majoring in Nursing. I have been blessed with a passion to love and care for others. I have been surrounded with a big family growing up, and I have always been a sensitive caretaker to all. As strange as it may seem, science and math have always excited me. Early in my life, I was exposed to diabetics who gave themselves shots, and at times, I was asked to help. I knew coming into college that I wanted to approach the medical field, but it wasn’t until October 2009 when I was faced with a family crisis that Nursing became that field. It was these experiences that have molded me into the individual I am today.

Writing online is nearly the only writing that I do. I send and receive emails through my sorority, as well as one here and there to family and friends. Embarrassingly, Facebook takes up a bulk of my time. We all know that ‘one second to get on’ turns into Facebook stalking which consumes hours of your day! I do not have my own blog. However, I follow and comment on other blogs. I have a Twitter account, but I am not the most active Tweeter. I love being online whether it’s shopping, blogging, emailing, or Facebooking. I am excited that English is now online. Maybe I won’t feel as bad for being on my computer too much!

My name is Alison Hoffmann and I am a Senior Apparel Studies major. I selected this major because it allows me to be creative. My creativity is something I value and studying fashion allows me to use that part of myself. As I approach gradation this May I am both nervous and excited about applying for jobs and utilizing my network of family and friends to help in that process. I write a number of emails daily, whether to professors, family members, past employers and/ or just personal emails. I have a Facebook and Twitter account, but I usually only update my Facebook account and not my Twitter account. I was required to make a Twitter account for one of my classes this semester, and I am not quite fond of it. I usually write on my friend’s walls and/or make comments on Facebook at least once a day, if not more.

Hello! I know this is a little belated, but better late than never! :)

My name is Kirstie VanFleet and I'm a senior Music Education major. The flute is my main instrument, but I play piccolo in the marching band (the tiny little high pitched black and silver stick looking instrument) and played tenor saxophone in high school. I want to be a band director one day, either at the high school or middle school level. I love music and can't wait to be a teacher. I chose music as my degree because I can't imagine myself doing anything else in life. I've known I wanted to be a musician since I was in the 7th grade (no joke). I'm very passionate about all the arts, but music just happens to be the only one I'm good at.

I do a little bit of writing online. I use e-mail for more professional correspondence. I have a Facebook account where I keep in contact with friends. Sometimes, if I see a post that particularly moves me, I post on blogs and message boards. Usually this only happens with more controversial issues I happen to feel strongly about.

Hello. My name is Michael Brannon, and I am a junior working on a Finance degree. I was originally a chemistry major, but I changed after my freshmen year when I decided I would do best working for myself. I plan on starting in the mortgage business and eventually working towards owning a contracting company that specializes in remodeling homes.

I generally see myself as an agnostic in thought and therefore keep most of my ideas or opinions to myself. Most of my online writing is either class oriented like e-mail or of course communicating on Facebook. Being an agnostic I typically look for evidence that cannot be disputed; however, that makes it hard to hold any beliefs in science because much of it is not absolute. So if am looking for an answer I look for the most sound and logical argument and stick with that, but I will not argue against other opinions because there is no absolute proof.

My name is Taylor Wellborn and I am a sophomore here at the University of Arkansas. I am currently working on fulfilling a Bachelor of Arts in History. Upon graduation I hope to return to my all girl Alma Mater, Mount St. Mary Academy, in Little Rock where I will teach upper level students. I chose this field because I have always enjoyed history. Furthermore, I had superb history teachers during my early education. I remember students saying how they disliked history, and loved watching how my amazing teachers influenced and changed their perspective of the "old and dusty" subject.
In regards to my online writing, I find myself always in front of my computer writing emails. I am an officer in my sorority and am obligated to continually reply to questions, ideas, problems, and encouraging word. As for online blogging (twitter, xanga, etc), I must admit that I have not caught onto this fad. I am not into putting my feelings out in the open, and if I do happen to use the internet as a form of expression, I tend to keep it vague. I am much more a fan of the occasional and simple facebook status update.

Hey my name is Elizabeth Hopper and I am a sophomore majoring in Business with a minor in English. I came to college as an Engineering Major and then switched to being an English Major before finally deciding what I wanted to do with my life. My online writing consists mainly of emails to teachers and facebook. The only times I have ever blogged are just for classes because I usually like to keep my opinions to myself. Email is a big part of my life, especially with all of the emails I get from my sorority keeping me informed about what is going on each week. I email my teachers pretty often too because that has become the main form of communication between teachers and students.

Hi my name is Ever Cavender. I am a senior this semester and hope to graduate next semester with a degree in Physics. I plan to go on to get my masters in teaching and then to teach Physics at a high school level. Fortunately, I have the ability to explain a concept in a variety of ways until a student can grasp it. Also, I was looking for a career that is in demand, and science and mathematics teachers are always needed in public schools. Most of my writing online is confined to my personal blog which focuses mostly on my daily experiences and thoughts as a Muslimah living in Arkansas. I refuse to have a facebook or twitter as they wasted a lot of my time, and often ended up inadvertently violating my privacy. I also keep up a pretty lively e-mail correspondence with friends from around the nation/world, including a very close friend in South Africa who offers me constant support and understanding.
